A Practical Guide to the new Pilgrimage on the Lough Derg Lakeshore

Lakeshore Pilgrimage on the Lough Derg Pilgrim Path.

Practical Notes

The Pilgrimage is completed outdoors.

Pilgrims will be accompanied by a member of the Lough Derg team as they ‘Walk and Pray’ the pilgrimage on the renewed Lough Derg Pilgrim Path.

There are two distance options. 8km Pilgrimage or 12km Pilgrimage.

As they book, pilgrims can select the distance more suitable for them.

Pilgrimage Programme: Max of 15 pilgrims per group. Up to three groups per day. Staggered start times. From the booking form, pilgrims should select the time and distance suitable.

The Pilgrimage will last approx. 5 hrs

The Pilgrim Path offers a moderate walk on gentle terrain. Pilgrims are advised to wear good walking shoes/boots and to be prepared for the changeable weather conditions at Lough Derg.

In addition to what is available on the new information boards each pilgrim will receive a copy of the guide to the Lough Derg Pilgrim Path and some Prayer Resources that will be used along the way.

A small bottle of water, a pack of oat cakes and a piece of fruit will be provided to each pilgrim.  Pilgrims may wish to bring a snack/packed lunch.

Here’s a video from Sunday 20th September when Pilgrim Bernard surprised us with his special snack – in the spirit of the Three Day Pilgrimage

Weather permitting, pilgrims will have the opportunity for a simple Mass together before the final stretch on the return.

The walk begins and finishes at the Visitor Centre.

The Lough Derg Shop will be open in the Visitor Centre.  Pilgrim Walkers can write a prayer petition or request a candle to be lit or have their loved ones included in Lough Derg Masses.

Please note that Lough Derg will be implementing the Public Health Measures that are in line with Government Guidelines at a given time.

NB: numbers are limited. Only those who have pre-booked can be admitted.
