Fr La’s weekly ‘Pause and Ponder’ from along the Pilgrim Path at Lough Derg. This week’s reflection is ‘The Path to Emmaus’.

On the Pilgrim Path these Easter days,

new-sprung life in growing variety

offers me silent company as I walk my way:

creamy primrose, golden celandine,

the very first of the yellow gorse.

I see no sign of Cleopas or his fellow traveller

who fell in with an unexpected companion

as they walked their road at Easter long ago,

but familiar local faces smile

as we meet and greet and pass on by.

And the path itself seems to be listening

as I rejoice in the faithful unseen presence

of One who these days once again

wants to hear all that has been happening for me.

My heart grows warm within

as I walk the Path with him,

and he with me.
