Prayer is important in the reflection of one’s personal faith.
The Lough Derg pilgrimage is often referred to as type of ‘body prayer’-the taking off of one’s shoes, going without sleep, fasting, all the while walking and repeating prayers, create an almost ‘mantra type’ prayer.
The tradition of pilgrims writing prayers or petitions whilst on pilgrimage, whether during the traditional pilgrimage or during the One Day Retreats is an important dimension to this sacred island.
