Anniversary of Fr Ragheed Ganni
Thirteen years ago today, June 3rd, a great friend of Lough Derg, Fr Ragheed Ganni was assassinated along with three fellow clergy outside his parish church in Iraq as they left from Sunday Mass.
Fr Ragheed was on the Lough Derg staff for five seasons during his studies for priesthood in the Irish College in Rome. He had a great love for Lough Derg and made many deep connections among the thousands of pilgrims he met here. His memory endures here on the Island and in people’s hearts right across Ireland.
The cause for his beatification has been introduced in Rome. Pope Francis wore a stole that belonged to Ragheed at a memorial liturgy in honour of the martyrs of our times. Here at Lough Derg we cherish his precious witness and we ask you to pray with us that he may soon be named Blessed.
