Last of the apostles is Matthias. In the first chapter of the Acts of the Apostles, Luke recounts how he was chosen to take the place of Judas Iscariot.

THE BODY OF JESUS IS TAKEN DOWN FROM THE CROSS

The crowd had left the hill.  A few friends remained, to mourn the dead and to keep vigil.  They placed the body in the arms of his mother.

Lord, your mother felt the sadness that we all feel when we lose our loved ones in death.  Help us to bear our bereavements with dignity and courage and hope.

We pause for some quiet moments of prayer, our eyes on “the outstretched arms of Christ Crucified….”

Save us, Saviour of the World, for by your Cross and Resurrection you have set us free.
