Lough Derg offers a special retreat day to support people who have been affected by suicide, either through personal loss, those who minister to the suicide bereaved or work in support services.
Our key speaker on this special retreat day will again be Conor McCafferty, director of ZestNI, psychotherapist and widely respected for his leading work in the area of suicide prevention and bereavement.
The programme helps people to know that moving beyond coping is possible as they embrace the oasis of calm and peace on this sacred island.
A guide to the Special Day Retreat on Saturday 28th September 2019
For many generations people of faith have come to Lough Derg to seek from God strength in the face of life’s difficulties and light in times of darkness.
In recent years, our ‘Living with Suicide’ day retreat has sough to offer the solace of solidarity to those who come with the weight of this particular burden: people who have lost a loved one to suicide, people who struggle to keep themselves safe when the darkness seems complete, people who stay close to a family member or friend who may seem to be at risk, people who accompany others in these difficult situations.
Our hope is that, in these few hours together in this place of sanctuary, we may come to know something of the truth of the Psalmist’s prayer of trust in God: “Even in the darkness, you are near; your right hand holds me fast.” (Psalm 138.10)
The day begins with people arriving between 9.30 – 10.00am (Tea/Coffee on arrival). The Retreat commences at 10.30am. A light lunch is served and the afternoon concludes by 4pm.
