Hello from Lough Derg.

Looking back on his life time experience of how God watched over him, protected him and comforted him, St Patrick recalls this heart-warming invitation from the Lord in Psalm 49, and the promise that goes with it: “Call upon me in the day of trouble; and I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.” (Ps 49.15)

This is also the experience of countless Lough Derg pilgrims and friends.  They may not express it in words borrowed from the psalmist but they too have learned for themselves that Lough Derg is a place where prayers are welcome, where they are heard and answered.

Fr Eamonn Conway, himself no stranger to Lough Derg both as pilgrim and as a priest on the team, loves to refer to Lough Derg as a ’storehouse of prayer’.  Eamonn is very clear that this is something he knows from experience both as priest and as pilgrim: a kind of boundless fund of grace and spiritual help has been amassed here across the generations; we can draw from it in our time of need and we also contribute to it in our humble ways as we make our pilgrimage, whether here at Lough Derg or in our lives day by day.

As Prior, it is my privilege to receive the prayers and petitions that come to Lough Derg and to place them before this compassionate and faithful God of ours, the God of St Patrick.  I bring them with me into the offering of Eucharist in a weekly Mass, I include them in the daily prayer of the Church, the Liturgy of the Hours, and I carry them with me in my regular pilgrimage walk along the lakeshore Pilgrim Path.

In this spirit, I invite you to put a few words on your prayer at this time and to send it to Lough Derg through this website.

Slán go fóill.
