Life's Journey Series

Life's Journey Series

This series of workshops has become an integral part of the Lough Derg programme since their initiation in 2008 to meet changing pilgrim and visitor demands. At the heart of what we do, the Life's Journey Series is the perfect compliment to our Traditional Pilgrimage and Day Retreats. Workshops are based on a range of topical themes, and will serve to educate, and support those wishing to attend.

It is important to note that the schedule for these dates is a little different from the Day Retreat programme and it outlined as follows:

Refreshments served on arrival to the Island

10:20am - Opening Prayers in the Basilica

Meditation

Tuesday 22nd May and Friday 14th September 2012

2 sessions: Session 1: 10.30-1.15pm and Session 2: 1.30-4.15pm

Come for either a morning or afternoon session. Enjoy a cuppa before the session starts at either 10.30am, or 2pm.

As we cultivate and develop mindful presence we begin to feel more alive and life takes on a vivid quality.  Research clearly demonstrates the benefits of mindfulness for such conditions as stress, anxiety, panic, depression and a host of other conditions. One of the most powerful lessons that mindfulness teaches us is that with a little training we can go a long way in supporting our health and wellbeing.

Ideal for anyone who is seeking to slow down, to regain a sense of inner peace-Lough Derg offers the perfect haven for integrating this technique into your lifestyle. Not suitable for children

Body and Mind Meditation

Sunday 26th August 2012

Integrated into the typical Day Retreat, we are excited to offer this new workshop. Many people nowadays are experiencing stress as a result of the pressurized nature of today's lifestyle. Body-mind meditation will appeal to those who find the pace of life too fast, or who find themselves tense or exhausted.

It is particularly suitable for those who want to pray in a quieter and more holistic way. Body-mind meditation uses carefully selected yoga techniques to gently draw together thinking, feelings and bodily activities so that these work together in harmony. It involves eight keys - rest, breath, body, place, sound, rhythm, simplicity and wholeness. These are used to promote stillness of body and mind, leaving the spirit of the mediator more open to intimacy with God.

The format for the day:tea and coffee on arrival followed by a welcome to Lough Derg by the Prior in the Basilica. Workshop attendees will be then invited to move to Davog House while those wishing to spend some time in private prayer or reflection can enjoy the Island facilities. Lunch will be served at 1pm.

Mass will be available at 2.30pm for those wishing to attend-or boat available at 2.30 for those wishing to depart the Island.

Facilitator: Fr Louis Hughes (OP)

Ideal for all adults and those particularly interested in new ways to pray and get closer to God.

Not suitable for children

You can heal your life

Sunday 16th September 2012

Integrated into the typical Day Retreat, we are excited about this new retreat.

This Louise L. Hay workshop, based on the classic You Can Heal Your Life, teaches you to become aware of 'self talk'. This is the never-ending chatter in your head: thoughts, words, worries, plans etc. Awareness of these beliefs is the first step to changing them.

Turn negative statements into positive ones. 'I am shy' becomes 'I am warm and friendly'. Thinking negative thoughts is a habit and habits can be changed. Avoid labelling, calling yourself negative words and names: stupid, lazy, neglectful. Delete self-defeating words from your vocabulary: should, never, can't,if,only. Accept compliments gracefully - instead of disagreeing with the person, accept the positive feedback and merely say 'thank you'. Make your self-esteem unconditional. Basing your self-worth on accomplishments is a vicious trap. A more compassionate attitude is to like yourself unconditionally, no matter what.

The format for the day:-tea and coffee on arrival followed by a welcome to Lough Derg by the Prior in the Basilica. Workshop attendees will be then invited to move to Davog House while those wishing to spend some time in private prayer or reflection can enjoy the Island facilities.Lunch will be served at 1pm.

Mass will be available at 2.30pm for those wishing to attend-or boat available at 2.30 for those wishing to depart the Island.

Ideal for all adults-none of us are ever too late to learn how to love ourselves a little better-in learning to love ourselves to can only then love others.
