Lough Derg is honoured to announce its participation in the Sacred Heart Crusade, an initiative inspired by Pope Francis’s final encyclical letter Dilexit Nos [He Loved Us], on the human and divine love of the Heart of Jesus Christ.
In a world that seems to be losing touch with the deeper things, the things of the heart, Pope Francis proposes that we renew and deepen our devotion to the Heart of Jesus, the very source and image of God the Father’s boundless love for humanity. In the Irish context, as a focus for a nationwide crusade in this Jubilee Year, four Sacred Heart Statues were blessed in Rome by Pope Francis on 08 January, and one of these will be present on Station Island this August, bringing the message of Christ’s infinite love and mercy. On the weekend of 23 to 25 August, pilgrims during our One Day Retreats will have a unique opportunity to venerate this Sacred Heart Statue, and by associating themselves with this national movement to renew our devotion and to draw closer to the Heart of Jesus, where we find solace, strength, and new hope. Lough Derg is privileged to be part of this spiritual endeavour. We invite pilgrims to join us on Station Island on one of these days and to be part of this exceptional moment of spiritual enrichment and community prayer. On these days, our usual Retreat programme of prayer and devotion will focus in a particular way on the call of Pope Francis in his final encyclical letter He Loved Us / Dilexit Nos to rediscover all that deep devotion to the Heart of Jesus has to offer in our spiritual lives, and to find in that Sacred Heart new energy and inspiration for the mission of his Gospel in these times when the world can seem a heartless place for so many.
