30 September 2002 - Swords, Co. Dublin

The ceremonies, or rather the celebrations in the Basilica leave me without adequate words. They were so simple, meaningful and so sincere from the blessing of the water (with added salt!), the happy oil. Benediction (who can remember it now?), the Taize chant (new to me), the evening Mass with song and psalm and incense and many concelebrants to the simple, quiet Mass of the morning with its gentle message and freshness. The friendly availability of priests, counsellors, helpers and first-aid staff...the well shod green-squad, with their honesty, their commitment filled me with awe. We prance in with C21 exuding from our very pores and in 48 hours we disembark on to the race track again and I realise that all these Green Pilgrimage - Makers have to step ashore and 'act normal' too after their soul-mending season.
