Blessing of Davog House
26 Apr 2006
22nd Day was a special day for Lough Derg,as Dr. Jospeh Duffy, Bishop of Clogher, blessed the new Retreat Centre, Davog House. Davog House heralds a new era for the Island, extending an invitation of welcome to young people, and others, outside the traditional pilgrimage season with marvellous amenities and the tranquil Island setting. The Blessing of Davog House was very much about celebrating the end of a 25-year building programme at Lough Derg, which has seen all the Island facilities and buildings renewed or repaired. Prior Richard Mohan welcomed the many invited guests, including the Papal Nuncio, His Excellency Most Reverend Dr. Giueseppe Lazzarotto, who delivered Pope Benedict's XVI's message from the Vatican. Archbishop Sean Brady gave a very stirring address to the congregation at Evening Prayer in St. Patrick's Basilica. Prior Richard Mohan says 'Today is a great day for all who have been involved in the development of Lough Derg over the last 25 years. Davog House is the culmination of years of work to provide modern facilities for pilgrims. As well as catering for the traditional Three Day pilgrimage and One Day Retreats, Davog House will provide suitable spaces for Youth and School Retreats. We are looking forward to being able to work with young people in a way that we couldn't do before now'.
