Jubilee 2025

Dear Friends in Faith,

As Lough Derg moves forward into the 2025 pilgrimage season under the Jubilee Year banner ‘Pilgrims of Hope’, I extend a heartfelt invitation and offer a warm welcome to each of you.

Proclaiming 2025 as a Holy Year in his letter Hope Does Not Disappoint, the Holy Father reminds us that pilgrimage is a fundamental element of every Jubilee event.  Alongside Knock Shrine and Croagh Patrick, Lough Derg is one of three esteemed traditional pilgrimage locations to be designated by the Irish Bishops’ Conference as national places of pilgrimage in the present Jubilee Year.

In a tradition that is inspired by the memory of Saint Patrick, Lough Derg has been a sacred site across the centuries, a kind of haven where countless pilgrims come to deepen their faith and trust in God, to reflect, to pray, and to seek solace. It is a place made holy by God’s grace through the penance, prayer and spiritual endeavour of God’s faithful pilgrim people.  Beyond its historical significance, Lough Derg invites you to journey into the depths of your own heart and discover or perhaps rediscover the hope that resides within, where ‘heart speaks to heart’.

Pilgrimage has a transformative power.

You may be drawn by personal challenges, or seeking healing, or simply yearning for a deeper connection with God and humanity. Lough Derg offers a place apart in a serene setting for you to encounter your Creator.  Our dedicated team is here awaiting you, offering a range of spiritual retreats and space for mind and heart to cater for each pilgrim's needs.

Moving forward in faith and solidarity, let us open anew to the spirit of hope that sustains us on Life’s journey.  We look forward to welcoming you to Lough Derg, where hope and faith, time and eternity meet.

May this Jubilee Year be a time of grace and renewal for all.

Beir beannacht.

Fr. La Flynn
Prior, Lough Derg

The Jubilee Prayer

Father in heaven, may the   faith   you have given us
in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother,
and the flame of   charity   enkindled
in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
reawaken in us the blessed   hope  for the coming of your Kingdom.

May your grace transform us into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel.
May those seeds transform from within both humanity and the whole cosmos
in the sure expectation of a new heaven and a new earth,
when, with the powers of Evil vanquished,
your glory will shine eternally.

May the grace of the Jubilee reawaken in us,  Pilgrims of Hope,
a yearning for the treasures of heaven.
May that same grace spread the joy and peace of our Redeemer throughout the earth.
To you our God, eternally blessed, be glory and praise for ever.
Amen
